Job summary

Opencast are seeking Software Developers who care about building products right and who bring experience with Java or Scala. You will work in a collaborative environment that values TDD, refactoring and thoughtful problem solving across client engagements in the UK.

You’ll contribute to government-aligned digital services, work within agile teams and be comfortable with on-site client work and travel. The role emphasizes mentorship, learning, and delivering robust software that meets user needs.

Qualifications

• Experience building software as a Software Developer.
• Ability to deliver high-quality, user-centred services using Java/Scala.
• Strong testing practices to ensure reliability and confidence in your work.
• Experience delivering in the public sector with government standards (GDS).
• Comfortable working in Agile teams and XP practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and prioritise a team backlog to support focused, value-driven delivery.
• Lead the implementation of user stories from refinement through to completion.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to shape robust solutions.
• Promote pair programming and strong testing approaches across teams.
• Represent Opencast in client environments with professional communication.
