Job summary

Referment is collaborating with a social‑impact software business creating analytics and data products for public‑service organisations. You will join the team to design and release features on a household data platform, spanning frontend and backend, under a Data Engineering Lead.

The role is hands‑on across product code, cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines and security, with opportunities to learn and influence engineering practices through pairing and reviews.

Referment is working with a social-impact software business whose data and benefits technology helps public-service organisations identify and support low‑income households. The engineering team builds analytics and calculation products used by local authorities and other organisations delivering essential services.

You will work predominantly on a household data platform, designing and releasing new features under a Data Engineering Lead. This is a hands‑on full‑stack role spanning product code, cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines and security. Alongside feature work and maintenance, you will help improve engineering practices through pairing, review and constructive technical discussion.

The Role

• Design, build, test and release features across front‑end and back‑end services.
• Work with React, TypeScript and Python services, including FastAPI and Pydantic, in an AWS serverless environment.
• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure as code and automated quality controls using tools such as GitHub, AWS CDK and testing frameworks including Playwright, Pytest, Mocha and Chai.
• Support event‑driven data and warehouse workflows across AWS services such as RDS, Fargate, Lambda, S3 and Athena.
• Handle maintenance and bug fixes as well as new product work, keeping data security, reliability and cost‑conscious architecture in view.
• Take part in scoping, code review, pairing and post‑mortems, helping the team learn and work effectively across the wider organisation.

Relevant Desirable Experience

Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, AWS serverless services, infrastructure as code or event‑driven data systems would help, but candidates with adjacent technologies and strong learning ability should not rule themselves out.

This could suit a software engineer who wants broad product ownership across application code and cloud delivery, and who is motivated by building technology used in public‑service and social‑policy settings.
