Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Software Engineer (Rust) to join a safety-critical systems team in Surrey. The role focuses on commercial Rust development across the software lifecycle, delivering high-integrity solutions in a structured engineering environment.

You will collaborate with software, systems and test engineers, contributing to requirements, development, integration and verification, while aligning with safety standards such as IEC 61508 and DO-178.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience developing software using Rust.
• Around 5 years' software engineering experience.
• Experience across requirements, development and/or test.
• Exposure to safety-critical or highly regulated environments.
• Knowledge of standards such as IEC 61508, EN 50128, ISO 26262, DEF STAN 00-55 or DO-178.
• A methodical approach to problem-solving and software quality.
• UK working rights, and the ability to gain BPSS security clearance

Most software engineers spend their careers building features.

This role is for someone who'd rather build confidence.

A specialist engineering organisation developing safety-critical systems is looking for a Software Engineer with commercial Rust experience to join a team working on complex, high-integrity software.

The environment is structured, technical and engineering-led. The software is expected to work first time, every time. That means rigorous development processes, clear requirements, thorough testing and an appreciation for why quality matters.

You’ll be involved throughout the software lifecycle, contributing to requirements, development, integration and verification activities alongside other software, systems and test engineers.

The role would suit someone who has experience working within defence, aerospace, transport, rail or automotive environments, where software is developed against recognised safety and engineering standards.
