Job summary

Murphy AI is hiring a Software Engineer to own real problems end-to-end on a scalable, event-driven platform where AI agents negotiate with banks and other clients. You’ll ship production code from design to deployment and take ownership of critical components from day one.

We value strong TypeScript skills (Node.js, React), a track record of building production systems, and thoughtful use of AI tools. Hybrid work, competitive compensation (£50k–£75k mid, £75k–£100k+ senior) and stock options

Qualifications

• 4+ years of production software experience in fullstack or backend/frontend roles.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript across the stack (Node.js backend, React frontend).
• Experience designing, running, and debugging production systems, including latency and cost.
• Demonstrated ownership: deliver solutions from problem to production with minimal specs.
• Ability to leverage AI tools responsibly while owning the final code.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own problems from need identification to production deployment and iteration.
• Build and evolve Murphy's products for configuring strategy, portfolios, and AI conversations.
• Extend the scaling machinery (onboarding, integrations with CRM/ERP, and data flows for AI agents).

About the Role

As a Software Engineer, your mission is to own real problems end-to-end, from design to production, on a platform designed to scale natively: an event-driven architecture where AI agents negotiate with real people on behalf of banks, under real SLAs and bank-grade security.

We’re AI-native in how we build, not just what we sell: LLM evals score 100% of our conversations, adversarial agents attack every change before it reaches production, and our CI/CD runs its own AI agents: reviewing code, catching regressions, and fixing vulnerabilities.

You’ll build alongside a team of excellent engineers who hold a high bar, shipping to production in your first week and owning more as the company grows.

You will have end-to-end ownership over what you build.

Responsibilities

• Own problems : understand the real need, design the solution, ship it, run it in production, and iterate on real usage.
• Build and evolve the products our customers live in - where they configure their strategy, follow their portfolio, and understand every AI conversation.
• Extend the machinery that lets Murphy scale the business in our sleep: self-serve onboarding, integrations with our customers' systems (CRM, ERP, core banking), and the data flows that feed our AI agents - where every conversation makes the next one smarter.
• Contribute to internal tools, AI skills and automations that make every team at Murphy faster. Engineers shape how the company works, not just what it ships.

Requirements

• 4+ years of proven experience building and scaling production software — fullstack, or strong backend/frontend engineers who want to go fullstack.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript across the stack: Node.js on the backend, React (or a similar modern framework) on the frontend.
• Demonstrated ability to design, run, and debug real production systems — failure modes, latency, and cost included.
• Strong ownership: you take a problem, not a spec, and come back with it solved.
• You use AI tools aggressively but critically: let them write the code, you own the thinking — and when you merge it, you own it.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Bonus points

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• Previous experience in AI/ML projects or startup environments.

2. Second Interview – Deep Dive You’ll meet the Hiring Manager and potentially another team member. This is a more technical discussion where we explore your skills in detail, walk through real scenarios, and answer any questions you might have about the role.
3. Tech Assessment or Business Case A practical exercise to see how you approach challenges similar to those you’d tackle at Murphy. You’ll have time to reflect and showcase your thinking—no rush, no surprises.
