Job summary

Torfaen County Borough Council is recruiting a Social Worker for the Care & Support and Disabled Children’s Team in Pontypool. You will assess and plan care for children from birth to 18, working closely with families and partner agencies to deliver proportionate support and positive outcomes.

The role offers a permanent full-time contract with supervision, training, and flexible/agile working options. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.

Social Worker - Care & Support and Disabled Children's Team

Torfaen Children and Family Services currently have a vacancy in the Care & Support and Disabled Children’ Team. Multi-agency working is a significant feature of the Children and Family Services approach to service delivery and you will be joining an innovative team and working in a progressive, committed and learning environment where practitioners are supported and valued.

About the team:

We support children and young people from birth to 18 years who are assessed as being in need of care and support, including children with disabilities & complex needs. Our role is to work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies to promote positive outcomes, build on family strengths, and ensure that assessed needs are appropriately met through proportionate and effective support planning. We are committed to ensuring that children’s voices are heard and remain central to all decision-making.

The team undertakes Care and Support planning, reviews, direct work with children and families, and provides ongoing statutory intervention where required. We work closely with education, health, respite providers, and community services to coordinate support that enables children to remain safely within their families and communities wherever possible. The team also has responsibility for supporting children with disabilities and their families to access specialist services, short breaks, and tailored packages of support that enhance well‑being, independence, and family resilience.

As a Social Worker you will:

• Be working in a supportive team environment with opportunities to develop skills in respect of undertaking assessments and formulating care plans.
• Have access to a supportive management infrastructure with a wealth of experience who are readily accessible for advice, support and decision making.
• Gain experience of working within a multi-agency setting and with other services / professionals.
• Have access to post-qualifying training and wider training courses.
• Have access to monthly supervision and peer reflection sessions.
• Benefit from flexible and agile working arrangements, including the option to take flexi leave.
