Job summary

Shropshire Council is seeking a Team Manager to lead the Leaving Care team supporting care leavers aged 18 to 25. The role is an ongoing locum, with a competitive hourly rate.

You will oversee a multidisciplinary team, ensure statutory pathway planning, and manage budgets while providing strategic and operational leadership across partnership networks.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in social work.
• Current registration with Social Work England.
• Recent managerial experience in roles such as Team Manager, Deputy Team Manager, or Assistant Team Manager.
• Extensive frontline experience within Children’s Services, particularly in team management.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Leaving Care Team, ensuring supervision every eight weeks.
• Supervise a team comprising seven PAs, a care-experienced apprentice, and a housing officer.
• Ensure the quality assurance of key documents and assessments while supporting PAs with statutory pathway planning requirements.
• Provide performance oversight by attending weekly meetings to share data and plan remedies for outstanding tasks.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the partnership to review and update the local offer and maintain corporate parenting responsibilities.
• Oversee the team budget, focusing on allocating the setting up home grant and ensuring care leaver entitlements.
• Support and oversee the participation offer for care leavers, through direct supervision of the care leaver participation worker.
• Act as a duty manager for the Children Looked After (CLA) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Service, covering annual leave and staff sickness.
