The Role

A new role within the Communications and Marketing team, the Social Media Manager will lead our social media strategy, manage our channels, and create compelling, story-led content that engages new and existing supporters and raises awareness of World Jewish Relief. You’ll oversee our online voice, working closely with colleagues across communications, fundraising, and programmes to ensure a consistent, authentic presence across all platforms.

Specific Responsibilities

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Plan, design, edit and publish engaging, exciting, on‑brand content including posts, stories, videos, and graphics collaborating with the Creative team.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications colleagues, as well as UK and International programmes teams, to gather and tell stories and provide creative updates on our work.
  • Write clear, emotive copy tailored for each platform and audience.
  • Ensure ethical storytelling practices that respect the dignity and rights of the people we work with.
  • Respond to urgent appeals and news, sometimes outside of standard hours, to ensure we inform and update our audiences as part of the real‑time conversation when news unfolds.
  • Iterate and deliver a social media strategy aligned with the World Jewish Relief’s mission, brand, and campaigns.
  • Manage day‑to‑day activity across all current platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) and support us to develop our presence outside of these platforms.
  • Use analytics to track engagement, optimise content, and report on performance and growth, ensuring insights feed into our tactics moving forward.
  • Stay up to date with wider social media conversations, social trends, tools, and best practices, adapting strategies accordingly.
  • Work closely with Head of Marketing to support paid campaigns across digital channels and ensure they are aligned with organic activity.
  • Work closely with the fundraising, Marketing & Communication teams to deliver integrated fundraising campaigns and events, aligned with campaign narratives but specific for social media audiences.
  • Work closely with Programmers and Partners to ensure they understand what good content looks like so you can maximise across our channels.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor social media conversations and engage in a timely and compassionate way.
  • Produce monthly reports summarising performance, reach, and impact.
  • Use insights to inform content planning and continuous improvement.

The Person – You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to create and tailor content for a variety of global audiences, and report on results.
  • Confident using social media analytics and scheduling tools (e.g. Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite).
  • Understanding of ethical communications and safeguarding in international development contexts.
  • Experience in paid social advertising and audience targeting.
  • Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing fundamentals.
  • A strong understanding of the Jewish community.
  • Experience of managing influencer partnerships and collaborations on social media.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience managing and growing social media channels for a brand, ideally a charity, NGO, or values‑driven organisation.
  • Ability to create and tailor content for a variety of global audiences, and report on results.
  • Confident using social media analytics and scheduling tools (e.g. Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite).

  • Experience in paid social advertising and audience targeting.
  • Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing fundamentals.
  • A strong understanding of the Jewish community.
  • Experience of managing influencer partnerships and collaborations on social media.

Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise using design tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Creative thinker with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong content creation and editing skills (photography, video, and short‑form editing) with experiencing creating content for a brand, with demonstrable results.
  • Outstanding copywriting skills for online audiences.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with a keen eye for detail and tone of voice.
  • A commitment and empathy to the work and values of World Jewish Relief.
