Role

Joining our new Economic Development and Enterprise Team, we’re looking for a colleague passionate about local participation with an interest in supporting the building of strong local/social enterprise activity. The successful candidate will support the delivery of our Social Enterprise Strategy by developing resources and models of advice for new and existing social enterprises to help them grow and develop. As a great communicator who thrives in developing new connections and relationships, the Officer will also be involved in events and projects for the third sector, working with colleagues across the organization.

  • Help raise awareness of social enterprise across Dumfries and Galloway.
  • Support capacity building for social enterprises in key development areas, including coordinating advice, support, and training with team members.
  • Contribute to the development of our Social Enterprise Network, engaging members, building membership, and supporting collaboration.
  • Build knowledge of the local/social economy and enterprise landscape to aid advocacy and sector promotion.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Locality, Communication, and Funding teams to maximize collective impact and contribute to wider success.

  • You will demonstrate working knowledge from community development or direct work within/alongside the third sector.
  • You may have experience in social enterprise or local economic development, and we can support your growth in this area.
  • You will understand the third sector, its scope, and challenges.
  • You will provide examples of applying key skills such as organization, planning, problem-solving, presentation building, and report writing.
  • You will have experience in building effective professional relationships inside and outside your organization.
  • You will show a commitment to improvement and demonstrating impact.

We seek a colleague passionate about supporting collaboration, developing capacity, and highlighting the role and impact of the third sector in nurturing local economies and enterprise. You will oversee and lead efforts in building strong local economies, developing local enterprise, and fostering cross-portfolio work for a wellbeing economy. Building relationships with local anchor organizations like the local authority and South of Scotland Enterprise, with communities, and sector-wide.

Develop and deliver plans to support capacity building for third sector organizations in economic development and enterprise.

Ensure resources and advice on policies, practices, research, and online hubs are available to the sector.

Oversee coordination and support of the Social Enterprise Dumfries and Galloway (SEDG) network.

Develop partnerships to support the sector's role and capacity, including economic investment and development decisions.

Support understanding of Community Wealth Building and the importance of local economies and social enterprises.

Promote shared learning about Community Wealth Building, exploring its pillars to benefit local people and places, working with CLES and SoSE.

Ensure effective resource allocation, providing high-quality tools, advice, and signposting to expert help, maintaining consistent and high-quality sector advice.
