Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced SMT Operator to join a busy, growing team. This hands-on role focuses on setting up and operating SMT equipment and supporting the production of high-quality PCB assemblies.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years' SMT experience and good knowledge of PCB technologies and IPC-A-610 standards. Key duties include loading feeders, setting up PCBs, programming machines, and operating the reflow oven.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in SMT role.
• Knowledge of PCB-level SMT component assembly.
• Understanding of PCB technologies.
• Experience reading and following work/build instructions.
• Experience with IPC-A-610 would be an advantage.
• Understanding of Moisture Sensitivity Levels (MSL).
• Good IT skills including machine control and programming software.
• Ability to learn new systems and software.

Responsibilities

• Load and set up feeders for production.
• Set up PCBs for the production line.
• Set up and operate paste stencil equipment.
• Create and select programmes for production.
• Load stencils and set up existing programmes.
• Process production jobs and clean stencils and tooling.
• Set up and operate SMT machines.
• Create machine programmes and carry out job changeovers.
• Run production jobs and ensure machines are set up correctly.
• Strip down machines and return components to kits in the correct order.
• Operate the reflow oven to produce assembled PCBs.
• Follow work instructions and build documentation at all times.
• Maintain high standards of quality throughout the production process.

The successful candidate will have previous experience within an SMT environment and a good understanding of the full SMT assembly process.

SMT Operator Roles and Responsibilities:

• Loading and setting up feeders for production
• Setting up and loading PCBs for the production line
• Setting up and operating paste stencil equipment
• Creating and selecting programmes for production
• Loading stencils and setting up existing programmes
• Processing production jobs and cleaning stencils and associated tooling
• Setting up and operating SMT machines
• Creating machine programmes and carrying out job changeovers
• Running production jobs and ensuring machines are set up correctly
• Stripping down machines after production and returning components to kits in the correct order
• Operating the reflow oven to produce assembled PCBs
• Following work instructions and build documentation at all times
• Maintaining high standards of quality throughout the production process

SMT Operator Ideal Candidate:

• At least 2 years' experience in a similar SMT role
• Good knowledge of PCB-level SMT component assembly
• A basic understanding of PCB technologies
• Good knowledge of SMT assembly processes
• Experience reading and following work and build instructions
• Experience working to IPC-A-610 standards would be an advantage
• An understanding of Moisture Sensitivity Levels (MSL)
• Good IT skills, including experience using machine control and programming software
• The ability to learn new systems and software when required

SMT Operator Working Hours and Benefits:

• Monday – Friday, 07:30 to 16:00 37.5 hours per week
