Job summary

A leading healthcare provider is seeking an ORB Smoking Cessation Practitioner to deliver smoking cessation interventions. The role involves working with individuals and groups to promote informed choices about smoking. This is a full-time, fixed-term position based in Aylesbury, with a salary range reflecting the Band 5 pay scale.

Job summary

Our ORB Smoking Cessation Practitioner will deliver one-to-one and group stop smoking cessation interventions within our service and to individuals that use our service. Helping those impacted by smoking and its associated harms make informed future choices about their use.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across our two main sites in High Wycombe and Aylesbury as needed, ensuring their skills, expertise, and knowledge are fully utilized.

Main duties of the job
  1. Utilize motivational techniques, assess clients' motivation to quit smoking, and maintain relationships with the client group to support smoking cessation.
  2. Work with people who access One Recovery Bucks (ORB) to identify the most appropriate tobacco dependency treatment pathway for them.
  3. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, work with service users on a 1:1 and/or group basis. Opportunity to co-work with colleagues.
  4. Identify and engage with potentially vulnerable individuals.
  5. Assist in updating smoking cessation information boards, posters, and patient information, and contribute to relevant policies as required.

Job description

  1. Engage with national health promotion initiatives such as Stoptober to educate and involve service users and staff.
  2. Participate in regular supervision (clinical or management) in accordance with good practice guidelines, and update NCSCT competencies annually.
  3. Manage a caseload of service users requiring smoking cessation interventions.
  4. Support the delivery of brief interventions and psychosocial pathways.
  5. Collaborate with the Health and Wellbeing Clinical Nurse Specialist to represent ORB within the Tobacco Control Alliance and liaise with Public Health Practitioners for Tobacco within Bucks Council.
  6. Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans for smokers throughout their treatment period.
  7. Support may take place in various venues, including the service user's home.
Person Specification

Experience (Essential):

  • Experience working with smoking cessation services.
  • Supporting development of individual care plans for recovery management.
  • Experience within health and/or drug and alcohol services.

Skills (Essential):

  • Sensitive understanding of diversity issues and promoting anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities.
