Job description

Our ORB Smoking Cessation Practitioner will deliver one to one and group stop smoking cessation interventions within our service and to individual's that use our service. Helping those impacted by smoking and its associated harms, make informed future choices about their use.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across our two main sites in High Wycombe and Aylesbury as required ensuring their skills, expertise and knowledge are fully utilised.

Main duties of the job
  • To utilise motivational techniques, assess client's motivation to quit smoking and maintain relationships with the client group to support smoking cessation
  • Work with people who access One Recovery Bucks (ORB) to identify the most appropriate tobacco dependency treatment pathway for them.
  • As a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, the practitioner will work with service users on a 1:1 and/or group basis. They will also have the opportunity to co-work with other colleagues.
  • Identify and engage with potentially vulnerable individuals.
  • Regularly assist in updating smoking cessation information boards, posters and patient information as well as contributing to relevant policies as and when required.

Job responsibilities

Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for more detail, a summary is below:

  • Engage with national health promotion initiatives such as Stoptober, to educate and involve service users and staff.
  • To participate in regular supervision (clinical or management) in accordance with good practice guidelines, update NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training) competencies annually.
  • To carry a caseload of services users requiring smoking cessation interventions.
  • To support the delivery of brief interventions and brief treatment psychosocial pathways.
  • To work with the Health and Wellbeing Clinical Nurse Specialist to represent ORB within the Tobacco Control Alliance and liaise with Public Health Practitioner for Tobacco within Bucks Council.
  • Assess, develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans for service users identified as smokers and throughout the treatment period.
  • Assessment and subsequent support may take place in a range of venues including the service users own home.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience of working with smoking cessation services
  • Experience of supporting with the development of individual care plans for managing recovery
  • Experience of working within health and/or drug and alcohol services
Skills
  • Sensitive understanding of diversity issues and an ability to promote anti - discriminatory practice/ equal opportunities
