Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Small Craft Surveyor (Ship) in Aberdeen to survey and inspect small and non-convention vessels, ensuring compliance with UK and international safety standards. You will issue certification, provide technical advice, and support consistent, high-quality survey services across MCA.

The role requires mentoring colleagues, handling surveys as lead surveyor in non-complex cases, and maintaining training and competence records.

Responsibilities

• Train or mentor Marine Surveyor colleagues on MCA S&I activities to ensure consistent implementation and guidance.
• Carry out surveys in all but the most complex cases leading to statutory certificates for small/non-convention vessels; act as lead surveyor.
• Inspect small/non-convention vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK requirements.
• Provide industry/public advice per MCA policies; act as the point of contact for communications with vessel owners/companies.
• Support delivery of high-quality survey/inspection services; collaborate with BM and MO teams to meet customer expectations.
• Maintain training and competence records; complete training to ensure competence and integrity via MCA peer review.
