Job summary

FM Conway Ltd. is seeking a Skilled Operative to join the Strategic Networks team within the Structures Division, working across South London contracts.

You will perform a variety of construction and highways tasks with a skilled site team, contributing to high safety and quality standards while using a range of plant and hand tools on diverse projects.

Qualifications

• Competence in at least one construction trade and experience in pavement construction, kerbing, concreting, drainage or hard landscaping.
• Hold a Level 2 NVQ qualification, a valid 360 Operator ticket and a CSCS card.
• Good understanding of health and safety in construction; include confined space qualification and UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a range of skilled construction and highways activities, including pavement construction, kerbing, concreting, drainage and hard landscaping.
• Prepare and set up work areas, ensuring tools, materials, plant and equipment are available.
• Operate plant and equipment you are trained to use, such as 360 excavators.
• Work safely and in line with RAMS, method statements and site procedures.
• Work with Site Management to deliver works safely and to standard.
• Carry out pre-use checks on plant and report defects.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

Job description

At FM Conway, our Skilled Operatives do more than carry out construction work. They play an important role in delivering safe, high-quality infrastructure that keeps our communities moving and supports some of London's most important highways and structures.

We're looking for an experienced and reliable Skilled Operative to join our growing Strategic Networks team within our Structures Division, working across our South London contracts.

You’ll be involved in a variety of construction and highways activities, working as part of a skilled site team to deliver works safely, efficiently and to a high standard. From concreting and kerbing to drainage, hard landscaping and pavement construction, you’ll have the opportunity to use your skills across a range of projects and environments.

No two days are the same. You’ll be working alongside experienced site teams, using a range of tools and equipment, supporting the delivery of works and helping to ensure every project is completed safely and to the required standard.

As one of our Skilled Operatives, you will:

• Carry out a range of skilled construction and highways activities, including pavement construction, kerbing, concreting, drainage and hard landscaping.
• Support with the preparation and setting up of work areas, ensuring the correct tools, materials, plant and equipment are available.
• Operate plant and equipment that you are trained and competent to use, including 360 excavators.
• Work safely and in line with RAMS, method statements, site instructions and company procedures.
• Work closely with Site Management and other members of the site team to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
• Carry out pre-use checks on plant, equipment and tools, reporting any defects or concerns immediately.
• Ensure materials are used correctly and efficiently, helping to minimise waste through good housekeeping.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Report any incidents, accidents, hazards or other points of concern to your Line Manager or Site Management without delay.
• Follow all FM Conway Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures.

You’ll ideally have:

We're looking for someone with previous experience in a construction, highways or structures environment, who is confident carrying out a range of skilled construction activities.

You’ll have competence in at least one construction trade and ideally experience in areas such as pavement construction, kerbing, concreting, drainage or hard landscaping. You’ll hold a Level 2 NVQ qualification, a valid 360 Operator ticket and a CSCS card.

You’ll also have a good understanding of health and safety within a construction environment, alongside a medium/high-risk confined space qualification and a full UK driving licence.
