Job summary

FM Conway Ltd is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead structural and highways projects in London and the South East. You will plan, manage and deliver projects from inception through to completion, coordinating engineers, commercial teams, clients and subcontractors to meet high safety, quality and performance standards.

You will drive budgets, programmes and resource planning, while overseeing design development and procurement.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing structures, highways or term maintenance projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC or JCT contract frameworks is desirable.
  • Strong budgeting, scheduling and risk management capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, management and successful delivery of structural and highways projects from inception through to completion.
  • Coordinate pre-construction activities, tenders, buildability and safety documentation.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and programmes, reporting progress regularly.
  • Manage design development, ensuring buildable, compliant solutions per project specs.
  • Ensure resources are available (plant, labour, materials, subcontractors) for delivery.
  • Coordinate road space applications, permits and approvals throughout delivery.
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement and pre-start meetings with the commercial team.
  • Monitor project performance for health, safety, quality and contractual compliance.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and internal teams to ensure delivery.

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our innovative Structures Business Unit, taking a key leadership role.. Our team delivers a full range of structural engineering services, combining innovative and sustainable solutions to maintain, restore and improve some of the region's most important infrastructure. From heritage restoration and bridge refurbishments to major capital projects, we have built a reputation for delivering exceptional work on iconic landmark structures including Hammersmith Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, Tower Bridge, Southwark Bridge, Greenford Flyover and the Marble Arch Still Water Illumination project.

You’ll be responsible for planning, managing and delivering structural and highways projects from inception through to completion. Working alongside skilled engineers, commercial teams, clients and subcontractors, you’ll oversee every stage of project delivery, from planning and procurement through to construction, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. Whether you’re coordinating complex structural refurbishments or leading major infrastructure improvements, you’ll finish every project knowing you’ve made a lasting contribution to the communities and transport networks that people rely on every day.

As one of our Project Managers, you will:

  • Lead the planning, management and successful delivery of structural and highways projects from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Supporting the pre-contracts team when putting together PQQ’s and tenders. This will be advice on buildability, health & safety documentation, and preparation of the tender programme
  • Developing and maintaining project budgets, programmes and provide up-to-date financial and programming information throughout each stage of the project lifecycle.
  • Managing and coordinating design development, ensuring solutions are practical, buildable and compliant with project specifications.
  • Ensuring projects are appropriately resourced with plant, labour, materials and specialist subcontractors.
  • Coordinating road space applications, permits and statutory approvals, ensuring all requirements are maintained throughout project delivery.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, pre-start meetings and contractual documentation alongside the commercial team.
  • Monitoring project performance, ensuring compliance with health and safety, quality, commercial and contractual requirements.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.

What skills and experience do you need?

We're looking for a confident and experienced Project Manager who enjoys leading teams, solving complex challenges and delivering high-quality infrastructure projects. You’ll have proven experience managing structures, highways or term maintenance projects, together with strong knowledge of project planning, resource management, commercial controls and stakeholder engagement.

Experience delivering projects under NEC contracts is essential, alongside strong cost and value management and design coordination skills. Having worked on JCT contracts is favourable, however, this is not essential. Ideally, you’ll hold a construction-related qualification. As the role requires travel between FM Conway locations, you’ll also need a full UK driving licence.
