Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Skilled Highways Operative to join our highways team in improving and maintaining the county road network. You will lead or support a crew to perform paving, drainage, kerb and channel work, and associated tasks using specialised equipment.

Role requires a valid UK driving licence, level 2 or equivalent qualification, and prior highway/construction experience. A focus on safe, efficient delivery and accurate record keeping is essential.

Qualifications

• Valid UK Driving Licence required.
• Ability to understand complex spoken and written instructions, plans, drawings and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Carry out modular and block paving and laying insitu concrete with reinforcement.
• Install and repair drainage systems and operate mechanical jetting plant.
• Fit formwork, shoring and metal bollards; undertake excavation work.
• Record work details accurately and work from plans and schedules.

Job description

As a Skilled Highways Operative you will lead or be part of a team and will carry out highways repairs and/or maintenance tasks. What you'll be doing:

• Modular and block paving
• Laying insitu concrete and associated steel reinforcement
• Associated iron work (i.e., manholes, gully's, valve cases),
• Laying kerb and channels
• Installing and repairing of all types of drainage pipes and systems and operate mechanical jetting plant
• Fitting formwork and shoring-up equipment
• Fitting metal concrete bollards and excavation work.
  Valid UK Driving Licence
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification
• The ability to understand complex detailed spoken and written instructions, as well as plans drawings schedules and calculate work requirements and keep accurate work records.
