Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Skilled Highways Operative to lead or join a team delivering highway repairs and maintenance across the county. You will perform modular paving, kerb work, drainage tasks and related activities using specialist equipment.

The role requires a valid UK driving licence, experience in highways and construction, and a Level 2 or equivalent qualification. You will follow plans and schedules, keep accurate records, and contribute to safe, high-quality

Qualifications

• Valid UK Driving Licence is required.
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction.
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification.
• Ability to understand complex spoken/written instructions and plans/drawings, and to calculate work requirements and keep accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Lead or be part of a team delivering highways repairs and maintenance.
• Carry out modular and block paving tasks.
• Lay insitu concrete and associated reinforcement.
• Install and repair drainage pipes and systems, operate jetting plant.
• Fit formwork and shoring equipment; install metal bollards.

As a Skilled Highways Operative you will lead or be part of a team and will carry out highways repairs and/or maintenance tasks.

What you'll be doing:

• Modular and block paving
• Laying insitu concrete and associated steel reinforcement
• Associated iron work (i.e., manholes, gully’s, valve cases),
• Laying kerb and channels
• Installing and repairing of all types of drainage pipes and systems and operate mechanical jetting plant
• Fitting formwork and shoring-up equipment
• Fitting metal concrete bollards and excavation work.

What you'll bring:

• Valid UK Driving Licence
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification
• The ability to understand complex detailed spoken and written instructions, as well as plans drawings schedules and calculate work requirements and keep accurate work records.
