Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Skilled Highways Operative to lead or be part of a team carrying out highways repairs and maintenance across the county. Responsibilities include paving, concrete work, drainage installation, formwork, and kerb installation, with emphasis on accuracy and safety.

The role requires a driving licence, proven highways/construction experience, and a Level 2 or equivalent qualification.

Qualifications

• Valid UK Driving Licence
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification
• Ability to understand complex detailed spoken and written instructions, as well as plans drawings schedules and calculate work requirements and keep accurate work records.

Responsibilities

• Lead or be part of a team to carry out highways repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Perform modular and block paving, laying insitu concrete and associated reinforcement.
• Install and repair drainage pipes and systems; operate mechanical jetting plant.
• Set up and fit formwork and shoring equipment; install metal concrete bollards and perform excavation work.
• Work on kerbs and channels; manage associated iron work (manholes, gullies, valve cases).

As a Skilled Highways Operative you will lead or be part of a team and will carry out highways repairs and/or maintenance tasks.

What you'll be doing:

• Modular and block paving
• Laying insitu concrete and associated steel reinforcement
• Associated iron work (i.e., manholes, gully's, valve cases),
• Laying kerb and channels
• Installing and repairing of all types of drainage pipes and systems and operate mechanical jetting plant
• Fitting formwork and shoring-up equipment
• Fitting metal concrete bollards and excavation work.

What you'll bring:
