Job summary

S. Norton & Co Limited is seeking a Yardman/General Operative in Southampton to perform manual labour, cleaning, and site maintenance. The role requires following health and safety rules and working under minimal supervision.

Typical duties include PPE usage, machinery cleaning, waste handling, and directing traffic on site. Forklift operation may be required for certain tasks, with additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Must read signs and instructions for Health & Safety.
• Able to work in a team and on own initiative.
• Good time keeping and attendance.
• CMS Certificate of Competence in relevant modules.

Responsibilities

• Follow Health and Safety rules at all times.
• Wear PPE and clothing per policy.
• Remove blockages from machinery.
• Keep sites clean and free from hazards.
• Shovel and clean waste materials and dirt.
• Move items with forklift as requested (qualified).
• Maintain site buildings and surfaces.
• Direct high volume vehicular traffic on entry/exit.
• Direct vehicles to tipping areas and ensure safe tipping.
• Liaise with drivers and weighbridge operators.
• Carry out other duties as reasonably requested.
• Comply with Employee Manual and terms of employment.
