Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced Freelance Site/Section Engineer to support the delivery of major infrastructure projects involving large-scale structures and bridges in the South West. You will manage site engineering, set-out, QA, ITPs, and coordinate construction works safely and efficiently.

Candidates should have prior experience on major infrastructure projects with strong setting out and surveying skills, CSCS/SMSTS, and a Civil Engineering degree.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site/Section Engineer on major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of structures, bridges and heavy civils.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience on highways/rail/utilities projects a plus.

Responsibilities

• Setting out and surveying for structures and bridge works.
• Managing day-to-day engineering activities on site.
• Ensuring works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.
• Producing and maintaining QA documentation, ITPs and as-built records.

Duration: Initial 3 Months

Rate: £480 - £500 per day (Inside IR35)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site / Section Engineer to support the delivery of a major infrastructure project involving large-scale structures and bridge works. This is an excellent opportunity for a contractor with a proven background in major civil engineering projects, capable of managing site engineering activities, setting out, quality assurance, and coordinating construction works safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting out and surveying for structures and bridge works.
• Managing day-to-day engineering activities on site.
• Ensuring works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.
• Producing and maintaining QA documentation, ITPs, and as-built records.
• Managing technical queries and liaising with design teams.
• Monitoring subcontractor performance and site progress.
• Supporting temporary works, permits, and safe systems of work.
• Driving high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

Essential Experience

• Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer on major infrastructure projects.
• Strong experience delivering major structures, bridges, reinforced concrete, and heavy civils works.
• Experience working on large-scale projects within highways, rail, utilities, energy, or similar sectors.
• Strong setting out and surveying capability.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• SMSTS
• CSCS Card
• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Temporary Works experience (desirable)
• First Aid qualification (desirable)

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a self-sufficient freelance engineer with a strong track record on major construction projects, particularly structures and bridge packages. The successful candidate will be able to hit the ground running and contribute immediately to project delivery.

Rate: £480 - £500 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: Initial 3-month contract with potential extension
