Job summary

Veolia Group in Preston is seeking a hands-on Waste Operations Assistant to join our chemist team. This role focuses on inspecting incoming wastes, loading and unloading vehicles, and preparing outbound loads with correct labelling and packaging.

You will handle hazard chemical waste, operate equipment like drum compactors, and maintain safe storage on site. A counterbalance forklift licence and willingness to work outdoors in all weather are essential to deliver reliable waste management

Qualifications

• Forklift license (counterbalance) required.
• Experience with manual handling and operational tasks.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and handle waste/chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Assist the chemist team to inspect incoming wastes and load/unload vehicles.
• Prepare outgoing loads including labelling containers, banding and wrapping palletised wastes.
• Manually repack hazard chemical waste for disposal.
• Load and unload bulk storage tanks and road tankers.
• Operate machinery including drum compactors and air powered tools.
• Maintain safe and compliant storage on site.
• Undertake general DIY and maintenance tasks as they arise.
