Job summary

West London Waste Authority is seeking a proactive Supervisor to lead up to 15 operational staff across HRRCs and a waste transfer station. The role involves health, safety and environmental protection, delivering customer service excellence and cost-effective day-to-day operations.

The postholder will deputise for the Site Manager when required. Reporting to the Site Manager, you will mentor staff, manage contractors, produce KPI reports and implement pilots for reuse initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising waste management sites or sections of sites.
• Significant project management experience with options appraisals, business cases, project plans and documentation.
• Knowledge of environment, waste, plant and Health & Safety legislation.
• Experience of managing contracts.
• Ability to manage others outside direct line management.
• Continuous improvement mindset and development of new ways of working.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health and safety policies are followed and risks are managed.
• Lead risk assessments with Health and Safety team and oversee SOPs, first aid resources, accident reporting and investigations.
• Oversee daily operations at waste transfer stations and recycling centres, ensuring budgets and service agreements.
• Maintain sites and equipment to required standards.
• Supervise contractors and engineers, manage work permits and onboarding for new starters and visitors.
• Cultivate a culture of customer service excellence and manage escalations.
• Produce weekly KPIs, costs and customer feedback reports and ensure data reporting compliance.
• Use data-driven decisions to meet KPI and SLA targets.
• Implement pilots for materials repair and reuse and update risk assessments accordingly.
• Maintain and update business continuity plans for sites.
• Oversee health and safety training and manage training matrices.
• Monitor budget lines and initiate procurement per financial procedures.
• Deputise for the Site Manager as needed.
