Job summary

Hazel Cottage School in Fazakerley, Liverpool is seeking an Assistant Site Manager to help maintain safe, welcoming learning environments across two sites. You will support repairs, safety checks and contractor coordination while ensuring high standards of cleanliness and presentation for pupils and staff.

The role requires hands-on maintenance experience, a full UK driving licence and the ability to work across both school sites with a proactive, team-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • Experience in hands-on building maintenance and caretaking duties.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and compliant site operations.
  • Ability to travel between Hazel Cottage School sites with a full UK driving licence.
  • Organised, reliable and able to prioritise workloads independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day maintenance, upkeep and presentation of both school sites.
  • Carry out basic repairs and decorating to a high standard.
  • Complete routine health and safety checks and log hazards.
  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance and reactive requests.
  • Support contractors and visitors ensuring safe and efficient work.
  • Help maintain grounds and specialist learning environments.
  • Assist with fire safety procedures, site security and emergency evacuations.
  • Monitor tools and supplies, ensure proper storage and maintenance.
  • Support site setup for events and whole-school activities.
  • Collaborate across both Hazel Cottage sites to create the best environment for pupils and staff.

Hazel Cottage School is entering an exciting period of growth with the development of our specialist provision across two sites. We're looking for a dedicatedAssistant Site Manager to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring our schools remain safe, secure and well-maintained for the pupils and staff who rely on them every day.

This is far more than a maintenance role. You'll be a valued member of our school community, helping to create environments where children with complex SEND needs, including Autism and pre-verbal learners, can feel secure, supported and ready to learn.

No two days are ever the same. One day you could be carrying out repairs and site checks, the next supporting contractors, preparing learning spaces or helping ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of safety and compliance.

What you will be doing
  • Supporting the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep and presentation of both school sites.
  • Carrying out basic repairs, decorating and general caretaking duties to a high standard.
  • Completing routine health and safety checks, reporting hazards and maintaining compliance records.
  • Assisting with planned preventative maintenance and responding to reactive maintenance requests.
  • Supporting contractors and external visitors, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Helping maintain school grounds, outdoor spaces and specialist learning environments.
  • Assisting with fire safety procedures, site security, lock-up arrangements and emergency evacuations.
  • Monitoring tools, equipment and supplies, ensuring they are used, stored and maintained correctly.
  • Supporting with site set-up for events, meetings and whole-school activities.
  • Working collaboratively across both Hazel Cottage sites to ensure the best possible environment for pupils and staff.
About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced inhands-on building maintenance, including carrying out small repairs, decorating and general caretaking duties to a high standard.
  • Practical, proactive and confident tackling a variety of day-to-day maintenance tasks across a busy school environment.
  • Knowledgeable aboutHealth and Safety requirements, with a good understanding of safe working practices and the importance of maintaining a compliant site.
  • In possession of afull UK driving licence, with the ability to travel and work across both Hazel Cottage School sites.
  • Organised and reliable, able to prioritise workloads and work independently when needed.
  • A positive team player with excellent communication skills and a flexible, can-do attitude.
  • Calm under pressure, adaptable and solution-focused, responding effectively to changing priorities.
  • Understanding and respectful of the needs of children and young people within a specialist SEND environment.

Hazel Cottage is a new school meeting the needs of autistic pupils aged 4 – 11 years who may have additional needs.

We are situated in St Helens in the former St Patricks Church. At Hazel Cottage everything we do is centred around the individual needs of each pupil attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their individual potential and thrive.Alongside a broad, exciting and memorable curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social interaction, sensory processing and emotional regulation.
