Job summary

Fieldstone School is seeking a proactive Facilities Assistant to join our team. This role focuses on keeping the school buildings and grounds safe, well‑maintained and welcoming for students aged 5–16.

You’ll handle repairs, support health and safety initiatives, and assist with projects while working collaboratively with staff and external suppliers. The ideal candidate has hands-on maintenance experience, a solid understanding of health & safety, and the ability to manage tasks independently

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths & English at level 4 or above.
  • Proven experience in facilities management or a relevant trade.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative, but also collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and clear communication.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to urgent maintenance needs.
  • Driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality maintenance and repairs across the site.
  • Assist the maintenance team with planned projects and reactive tasks.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify and resolve health and safety concerns.
  • Advise staff on safe use and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Support risk assessments and ensure COSHH compliance.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
  • Travel across the school site and to suppliers as needed.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8am - 4pm
Contract: Permanent | 52 Weeks

At Fieldstone School, we’re looking for a proactive Facilities Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. No two days are the same. From carrying out repairs and maintaining our school buildings and grounds to supporting health and safety and improving our learning environment, you’ll be a valued member of our school community whose work has a direct impact every single day.

What You’ll Do
  • Take charge of your specialist trade or area of expertise, delivering high-quality maintenance and repairs
  • Assist the maintenance team with both planned projects and reactive tasks
  • Conduct regular site inspections to spot and resolve Health & Safety concerns
  • Advise staff on the safe use and maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • Support risk assessments and ensure compliance with COSHH and other regulations
  • Maintain tools and equipment, keeping everything in top condition
  • Travel across the school site and to suppliers as needed
What We’re Looking For
  • GCSE Maths & English at level 4 or above
  • Proven experience in facilities management or a relevant trade (plumbing, joinery, electrical, decorating, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and compliance standards
  • Ability to work independently with initiative, but also collaborate effectively within a team

  • Driving licence is essential
