Job summary

Compass Community Schools is seeking a proactive and reliable Site Manager to oversee the school building, grounds and facilities, ensuring safety, maintenance and compliance for pupils, staff and visitors.

The role is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends and emergencies. The Site Manager will be pivotal in creating a secure, welcoming environment in a brand-new Compass School.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience in building maintenance or facilities work.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to carry out minor repairs safely and competently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Flexible, trustworthy and child-focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day repairs and maintenance (basic carpentry, plumbing, painting).
  • Conduct routine inspections and respond promptly to maintenance issues.
  • Support health and safety compliance, including fire safety and water hygiene checks.
  • Maintain external areas such as playgrounds, paths and car parks.
  • Assist with site security, opening/closing procedures and emergency responses.
  • Log completed works and assist with audits and inspections.
  • Provide support for school activities and liaise courteously with staff, pupils and visitors.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and reliableSchool Site Manager to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring our school building, grounds and facilities are safe, well-maintained, and compliant - creating a secure and positive environment for all of our pupils, staff and visitors.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to support occasional evenings, weekends and emergency call-outs as required.

Key Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For

  • Practical experience in building maintenance, caretaking or facilities work.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to carry out minor repairs safely and competently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Flexible, trustworthy and a child-focused approach.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a school or education setting.
  • Basic trade qualifications (or NVQs).
  • Familiarity with fire safety and water hygiene procedures.

Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to undergo DBS checks.
  • Basic IT skills - for logging jobs and emails.
