areera is a growing UK recycling business specialising in the collection, handling and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), including televisions, fridges and other electrical appliances.
We are now looking for an experienced, hands‑on Site Manager to take responsibility for our new yard operation in Stanton, Bury St Edmunds.
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the site from the outset, establish good working practices and build a safe, efficient and well‑organised operation.
The site will initially focus on receiving and storing end‑of‑life fridges awaiting recycling. This is currently a storage‑only operation, with the potential to develop into a more involved recycling facility in the future.
You will be responsible for managing a busy outdoor yard, overseeing high volumes of inbound fridge deliveries, managing the FLT operation and ensuring the site runs safely and efficiently.
This is very much a hands‑on management role. You will need to be comfortable getting involved in the day‑to‑day operation, operating counterbalance FLTs and clamp trucks when required, as well as managing the team and keeping everything running smoothly.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of a new site, establish high operational standards and help develop the operation as the business grows.
Managing the day‑to‑day running of a busy outdoor yard operation, ensuring the operation runs safely and efficiently.
Overseeing high volumes of inbound deliveries of end‑of‑life fridges for recycling and coordinating with hauliers and the transport team.
Managing the FLT operation and operating counterbalance FLTs and clamp trucks as required.
Maximising yard space, managing stock movements and ensuring the site is kept organised and maintained to a high standard.
Taking responsibility for health and safety on site, ensuring procedures are followed, instructions are clearly communicated and staff receive the necessary training.
Ensuring appropriate PPE is provided and worn and that safe working practices are maintained.
Recruiting, supervising and managing staff, setting clear expectations and maintaining performance and safety standards.
Coordinating staffing requirements and liaising with recruitment agencies where necessary.
Maintaining regular communication with head office, providing updates on site operations, staffing and any operational issues.
Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and yard processes.
Supporting the future development of the site as the operation expands.
We are looking for someone with previous experience managing a busy yard or similar operational environment who is confident taking responsibility for people, deliveries, FLT operations and site safety.
You will need to be practical, organised and comfortable working in a hands‑on outdoor environment.
Previous experience in yard management, site management or a similar operational role.
Experience managing teams, setting standards and overseeing day‑to‑day performance.
The ability and experience to operate counterbalance FLTs and clamp trucks.
A strong understanding of workplace health and safety, particularly within yard, warehouse or industrial environments.
Experience coordinating deliveries, vehicle movements and materials handling.
Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy operation and respond to changing priorities.
A proactive, practical approach and a willingness to get involved in the day‑to‑day operation.
The confidence to make decisions, resolve operational issues and take ownership of the site.
Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with head office, transport teams and external hauliers.
Experience assessing or training FLT drivers would be advantageous, as would previous experience in recycling, waste management, logistics or materials handling.
If you enjoy a hands‑on management role, know how to run a busy yard and want the opportunity to make a real difference as part of a growing business, we would be keen to hear from you.
