Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc invites applications for a Site Engineer based in Scunthorpe to deliver survey and setting-out activities on our Power Transmission and Distribution projects. You will support QA/QC, produce as-built records, and liaise with project teams to ensure safe, accurate outputs.

The ideal candidate has surveying experience in civil/mechanical environments, knowledge of GNSS, Total Stations and Civil 3D, and a track record with Tier 1 contractors on National Grid projects.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar role with National Grid projects.
  • Surveying experience in civil/mechanical environments.
  • Experience managing risks and change processes.
  • Proficient with GNSS, Total Stations and digital level.
  • Strong communication, coordination and teamwork.
  • Ability to plan work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong Health & Safety commitment.
  • Understanding of standard forms of contracts.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Tier 1 contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver site survey works including control, topographic surveys, setting out and construction-stage checks, ensuring survey data and outputs are accurate, complete, version-controlled and suitable for construction purposes.
  • Undertake verification surveys, survey QA/QC checks and completion of quality documentation to confirm constructed works meet design intent, required tolerances, ITPs and hold points.
  • Produce as-built records, drawings, and models, ensuring outputs are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Review and check design information prior to construction, ensuring suitability, identifying discrepancies, and raising issues where required.
  • Liaise with site engineers and project teams to ensure the effective flow of survey information and support resolution of technical and dimensional queries.
  • Ensure survey activities are carried out in accordance with safe systems of work, identifying hazards and supporting a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain survey consumables and equipment, ensuring availability and readiness to meet project requirements.

What you'll be doing

As a Site Engineer, you will have the following accountabilities:

Who we're looking for
  • Experience working in a similar role ideally with expertise of working on National Grid projects
  • Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to civil engineering and/or mechanical engineering environments.
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes
  • Proficient in using a range of survey equipment including GNSS, Total Stations and digital level
  • Effective communication, coordination, and team-building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and deliver outputs to programme
  • Strong commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant software: AutoCAD or Civil 3D
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor previously
