Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Site Based Substation Construction Manager for the Laleham Substation project in the Hull area. You will lead site teams, ensure safety, quality and budget adherence while delivering complex power infrastructure.

You will work with Project Managers, coordinate site resources, liaise with authorities, and drive safe working practices with a strong focus on delivering on time and to specification. A UK driving licence and relevant degree are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering; APM certification desirable.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience delivering complex substation or transmission projects.
• Experience with National Grid projects is advantageous.
• Strong communication and contract management skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage Site Engineers to ensure safety and technical compliance.
• Plan work and coordinate materials, plant and equipment.
• Oversee resources and staff across the project.
• Direct site operations daily, supervise labour, and monitor quality.
• Liaise with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and Utilities.
• Deliver project on time and on budget with benchmarks.

As aConstruction Manageryou'll:

• Support the Project Managers in their responsibility for overall profit and lossof a standard or major project whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability,environmental and quality are implemented
• Promote a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders’ requirements are effectively managed, and employees feel motivated and engaged to deliver

What you'll be doing

• Manage Site Engineers / Project Engineers to ensure that all work undertaken satisfies all requiredsafety and technical policies and procedures
• Plan the work and oversee the requirements for necessary materials, plant and equipment
• Oversee the requirements for resource and then manage staff for the project
• Manage the construction site(s) on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labour force,monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and overseeing quality control
• Ensure that all work is carried out according to required standards and be responsible for effective liaisonand collaboration with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and other Utilities providers etc.
• Ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing budgetsand monitoring progress
• Check design documents
• Responsible for a working environment which ensures the achievement of all safety andenvironment legislation, engineering and customer standards.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

• Able to demonstrate a track record of project deliver
• Experience working in a similar role ideally with expertise of working on National Grid project
• Good understanding of the standard forms of contract
• Proficient in commercial/project management communication
• Experience in implementing safe systems of work
• Experience in improving current safety systems in support of our safety initiatives - making safety personal
• Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of theorganisation
• Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams.
• Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
• Commercially astute
• Full clean UK driving licence

Degree Qualified in Electrical/Civil Engineering Discipline - desirable Qualification in APM – desirable
