Job summary

Randstad Construction & Property is seeking a hands-on Site Engineer for a long-term freelance role on a renewables and infrastructure solar farm near Exeter. Immediate start, on-site work in Cardiff with a UK driving licence.

You will lead setting-out activities, oversee small subcontractors, and ensure QA and RAMS compliance in a fast-paced environment. The position demands experience in solar/groundworks, proficiency with robotic total stations and GPS surveying, and strong site supervision

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Engineer on solar farm schemes, heavy groundworks or land development.
• Proficient in setting-out using robotic total stations and GPS surveying.
• Experience managing small subcontractors and direct labor on site.
• CSCS card and SMSTS or SSSTS certification required.
• Immediate availability to start on site in Exeter with a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Setting out precise dimensional control for foundations, array frames, inverter stations, fencing and tracks.
• Manage small subcontractors on site and drive daily production targets.
• Perform on-site quality assurance and as-built surveys.
• Maintain daily site diaries and track progress against lookahead schedules.

We are recruiting a hands-on Site Engineer to join a leading renewables and infrastructure contractor on a commercial solar farm scheme near Exeter. This is an immediate start opportunity for a setting-out engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable taking active charge of daily site management.

The Role

• Setting Out: Executing precise dimensional control for pile foundations, array frames, inverter stations, perimeter fencing, and internal access tracks.
• Subcontractor Management: Managing small specialist subcontractors on site, keeping teams organized, and driving daily production targets.
• Quality Assurance: Managing quality control on the ground, carrying out as-built surveys, and ensuring installations meet project specifications.
• Site Supervision: Keeping detailed daily site diaries, tracking progress against lookahead schedules, and resolving technical site queries quickly.
• HSEQ Compliance: Enforcing strict site safety standards, carrying out site inductions, and ensuring compliance with RAMS.

Essential Requirements

• Renewable / Groundworks Experience: Proven track record as a Site Engineer on solar farm schemes, heavy groundworks, or land development projects.
• Setting-Out Precision: Highly proficient in using modern robotic total stations and GPS surveying equipment.
• Subcontractor Oversight: Demonstrated experience managing small sub-contractors and direct labor teams on site.
• Site Credentials: Valid CSCS card and SMSTS or SSSTS.
• Availability: Immediately available to start on site in Exeter with a full UK driving licence.
