Job summary

The Abbey in the North West is seeking a Senior Site Manager / Site-Based Project Manager to lead fast-paced fit-out projects across the UK. You will take full responsibility for site delivery, health and safety, programme, quality, and client expectations, supported by a Contracts Manager and commercial team.

Based in Manchester with nationwide travel, the role offers a £60,000 per annum package, expenses and digs while away, and long-term security on high-profile projects in retail and leisure

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager or Site-Based Project Manager.
• Experience in fit-out projects, ideally retail/leisure/commercial kitchens.
• Strong on-site leadership as Number 1 and ability to manage complex programmes.
• Excellent health and safety knowledge and client-facing communication.
• Comfortable coordinating subcontractors and multiple trades.

Responsibilities

• Full day-to-day management of site operations as Number 1.

Company Overview

Our client is a well-established North West-based Design & Build contractor operating within the retail and leisure fit-out sector, with a particular specialism in commercial kitchen installations.The business currently turns over approximately 15m annually and is experiencing sustained growth, with a strong order book secured into 2026. Due to increased workload, they are now looking to strengthen their delivery team with the appointment of an experienced Senior Site Manager / Site-Based Project Manager.

Role Overview

This is a senior, site-based role requiring a confident Number 1 capable of taking full responsibility for the successful delivery of fast-paced fit-out projects nationwide. You will manage projects
from site set-up through to completion, ensuring health & safety, programme, quality, and client expectations are consistently met.You will be supported by an established commercial team and a visiting Contracts Manager, allowing you to focus on site delivery and project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Full day-to-day management of site operations as the Number 1 on site
• Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and company procedures
• Managing and coordinating subcontractors and suppliers
• Maintaining strong client-facing relationships and representing the business professionally on site
• Managing and driving project programmes to meet deadlines
• Reporting progress, risks, and issues to the Contracts Manager
• Ensuring quality standards are achieved throughout the build
• Coordinating site logistics and sequencing on fast-track fit-out projects

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager or Site-Based Project Manager
• Essential experience in fit-out projects, ideally within retail, leisure, or commercial kitchens
• Strong experience acting as Number 1 on site
• Excellent Health & Safety knowledge
• Confident managing subcontractors and multiple trades
• Strong organisational and programme management skills
• Client-facing with excellent communication skills
• Experience using MS Project (advantageous but not essential)
• Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments
