Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting a Site Manager / Site Agent for a technically demanding civil engineering project around Bournemouth.

The role entails everyday site delivery, coordinating teams and subcontractors, and ensuring safety, quality and programme alignment on tunnelling and civils works, including groundwater and dewatering activities.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Manager or Site Agent in heavy civil engineering.
• Experience with tunnelling, shafts, micro-tunnelling or auger boring.
• RAMS, permits, quality documentation and programme delivery experience.
• Knowledge of NEC4 contracts and collaborative planning is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily site operations and construction activities.
• Coordinate engineers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure works are delivered to programme, spec and project requirements.
• Lead daily briefings and site coordination meetings.
• Review RAMS, permits, WPPs and temporary works requirements.
• Ensure lift plans and relevant permits are prepared and in place.
• Maintain site diaries, tunnelling records and production records.
• Monitor excavation and tunnelling performance and resolve issues.
• Manage plant, materials, pumping and underground logistics.
• Carry out quality checks and ensure compliance with ITPs.
• Produce short-term programmes (4-week lookaheads).
• Monitor progress, risks, and HSEQ performance.
• Maintain communication with client and project team.
• Deputise for the Project Manager when required.

Site Manager / Site Agent

Location: Bournemouth

Sector: Water / Civils / Tunnelling

Contract Type: Contract

Rate: £400 to £450 CIS.

We are looking for an experienced Site Manager / Site Agent to support the delivery of a technically challenging civil engineering project in the Bournemouth area.

The role will involve managing day-to-day site delivery across tunnelling and associated civils works, ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently, to programme and in line with project specifications.

The Role

You will take responsibility for coordinating site teams, subcontractors, plant, materials and construction activities across works including:

• TBM drives
• Shafts
• Micro-tunnelling
• Auger boring
• Sheeted pits
• Associated civil engineering works
• Groundwater and dewatering activities
• Underground logistics and spoil removal

You will work closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, taking ownership of site safety, quality, programme, documentation and daily coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily site operations and construction activities.
• Coordinate engineers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with the programme, specification and project requirements.
• Lead daily activity briefings and site coordination meetings.
• Review and manage RAMS, permits, Works Package Plans and temporary works requirements.
• Ensure lift plans and relevant permits are prepared and in place.
• Maintain accurate site diaries, tunnelling records, production records, photographs and ground-condition records.
• Monitor excavation and tunnelling performance and support the resolution of operational issues.
• Manage plant, materials, pumping, ventilation, spoil removal and underground logistics.
• Carry out regular quality checks and ensure works comply with ITPs and specifications.
• Produce and manage short-term programmes, including 4-week lookaheads.
• Monitor progress, risks, constraints and HSEQ performance.
• Maintain effective communication with the client, subcontractors and wider project team.
• Deputise for the Project Manager where required.

Experience Required

We are looking for candidates with previous Site Manager, Site Agent or similar experience within heavy civil engineering.

Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly relevant:

• Tunnelling
• Shafts
• Micro-tunnelling
• Auger boring
• Deep drainage
• Water or wastewater infrastructure
• Underground utilities
• Major civil engineering projects

You should also have strong experience managing subcontractors, site safety, RAMS, permits, quality documentation and programme delivery.

Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, Microsoft Project and collaborative planning techniques would be advantageous.
