Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Site Manager / Site Agent to support a technically challenging civil engineering project in the South Sheffield area. The role covers day-to-day site delivery across water and associated civils works, ensuring activities are safe, efficient, and on programme in line with project specifications.

Qualifications

• Experience as Site Manager/Site Agent in heavy civil engineering.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors, plant, materials and construction activities.
• Knowledge of RAMS, permits, Works Package Plans and temporary works.
• Ability to produce short-term programmes and lookaheads (e.g., 4-week lookahead).
• Knowledge of NEC4 contracts and quality documentation would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate engineers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with programme, specification and project requirements.
• Review and manage RAMS, permits, Works Package Plans and temporary works requirements.
• Ensure lift plans and relevant permits are prepared and in place.
• Maintain site diaries, production records and ground-condition records.
• Monitor excavation and construction performance and resolve issues.
• Manage plant, materials, pumping and spoil removal.
• Carry out regular quality checks and ensure works comply with ITPs and specs.
• Produce and manage short-term programmes, including 4-week lookaheads.
• Monitor progress, risks, constraints and HSEQ performance.
• Deputise for the Project Manager as required.

Site Manager / Site Agent

Location: South Sheffield
Sector: Water / Civils
Contract Type: Contract (8 months)
Rate: £400 to £450 CIS

We are looking for an experienced Site Manager / Site Agent to support the delivery of a technically challenging civil engineering project in the South Sheffield area.

The role will involve managing day-to-day site delivery across water and associated civils works, ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently, to programme and in line with project specifications.

The Role

You will take responsibility for coordinating site teams, subcontractors, plant, materials and construction activities across works, working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, taking ownership of site safety, quality, programme, documentation and daily coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate engineers, supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with the programme, specification and project requirements.
• Review and manage RAMS, permits, Works Package Plans and temporary works requirements.
• Ensure lift plans and relevant permits are prepared and in place.
• Maintain accurate site diaries, production records, photographs and ground-condition records.
• Monitor excavation and construction performance and support the resolution of operational issues.
• Manage plant, materials, pumping and spoil removal.
• Carry out regular quality checks and ensure works comply with ITPs and specifications.
• Produce and manage short-term programmes, including 4-week lookaheads.
• Monitor progress, risks, constraints and HSEQ performance.
• Deputise for the Project Manager where required.

Experience Required

We are looking for candidates with previous Site Manager, Site Agent or similar experience within heavy civil engineering.

Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly relevant:

• Shafts
• Auger boring
• Deep drainage
• Pits and manholes
• Water or wastewater infrastructure
• Underground utilities
• Major civil engineering projects

You should also have strong experience managing subcontractors, site safety, RAMS, permits, quality documentation and programme delivery.

Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, Microsoft Project and collaborative planning techniques would be advantageous.

You will need to be confident managing busy site operations and coordinating multiple work fronts while maintaining strong standards across health and safety, quality and programme delivery.

The role would suit an experienced Site Agent or Site Manager from a water, utilities or heavy civils background who is comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day project delivery.
