Job Description:

Our Team: Welcome to the Audi F1 Project.

Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026.

The new team has three locations: the Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany), the Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland), and the Sauber Motorsport Technical Center in the UK. Our Power Unit is developed in Neuburg, while Hinwil focuses on chassis and race operations.

What you need: The mindset of an athlete. If you are someone for whom giving up isn’t an option and limits are just challenges to overcome, you can bring "Vorsprung durch Technik" to Formula 1 with us. Join this unique project and make motorsport history.

The position for the Audi F1 Project is based at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg, Germany.

As a development engineer for powertrain simulation within the complete vehicle context, you will significantly contribute to the project's success and guide development across departments. You will focus on maximizing performance of one of the most powerful and efficient hybrid drivetrains in Formula 1.

This position is available starting January 1, 2026.

Your Mission
  • Develop state-of-the-art complete vehicle simulation for lap time performance and energy management optimization.
  • Continuously improve the simulation/optimization framework by implementing user requirements and integrating high-fidelity vehicle and powertrain models.
  • Identify and implement measures to improve convergence and robustness of the optimization.
  • Research, review, and implement advanced numerical methods from academic literature.
  • Support concept analysis and system design decisions for the F1 2026 power unit regulations.
  • Collaborate independently and with engineers from modeling and software development teams.
Your Profile
  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related fields.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in numerical optimization.
  • Extensive experience in optimal control or model predictive control.
  • Strong understanding of linear algebra, calculus, dynamical systems, and differential equations.
  • Experience in lap time simulation and vehicle modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or C++.
  • Experience with modern software development workflows and version control systems like Git or SVN is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and systemic thinking, with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Enjoy working in an international environment.
  • Proficiency in German or English, with willingness to learn the other language.
