Job Description:

Our Team: Welcome to the Audi F1 Project.

Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026.

The new team has three locations: the Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany), known for its modern facilities; the Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland), recognized for innovative technologies; and the Sauber Motorsport Technical Center, UK, operational this year. Our Power Unit is developed in Neuburg, while Hinwil focuses on chassis and race operations.

What you need? The mindset of an athlete. If giving up isn't an option for you and you see limits as challenges to overcome, you can bring "Vorsprung durch Technik" to Formula 1. Join this unique project and make motorsport history.

The position for the Audi F1 Project is based at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg (Germany).

As a development engineer for powertrain simulation within the complete vehicle context, you will significantly contribute to the project's success and influence development direction across departments. You will work on maximizing the performance of one of the most powerful and efficient hybrid drivetrains in the competitive environment of Formula 1.

This position is available starting January 1, 2026.

Your Mission
  • Develop state-of-the-art complete vehicle simulation for lap time performance and energy management optimization.
  • Continuously improve the simulation and optimization framework by implementing user requirements and integrating high-fidelity vehicle and powertrain models.
  • Identify and implement measures to enhance convergence and robustness of optimization processes.
  • Research, review, and apply advanced numerical methods from academic literature.
  • Support concept analysis and system design decisions in line with F1 2026 PU regulations.
  • Collaborate independently and with engineers from model and software development teams.

Your Profile

  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related fields.
  • Several years of experience in numerical optimization.
  • Extensive experience in optimal control or model predictive control.
  • Strong knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, dynamical systems, and differential equations.
  • Experience in lap time simulation and vehicle modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or C++.
  • Knowledge of modern software development workflows and version control systems like Git or SVN is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, systemic, and independent working skills, with the ability to work well in a team.
  • Enjoyment of working in an international environment.
  • Proficiency in either German or English, with willingness to learn the other language.
