Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026.

The new team has three locations: the Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany), the Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland), and the Sauber Motorsport Technical Center, UK, which will be operational this year. Our Power Unit is developed in Neuburg, while Hinwil focuses on chassis and race operations.

What you need? The mindset of an athlete. If you are someone for whom giving up isn’t an option and limits are just something to be overcome, you can bring Vorsprung durch Technik to Formula 1 with us. Join this unique project and make motorsport history.

The position for the Audi F1 Project is based at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg, Germany.

As a development engineer for powertrain simulation within the context of the complete vehicle, you will significantly contribute to the project's success and set development directions for various subdivisions. You will help maximize the performance of one of the most powerful and efficient hybrid drivetrains in the highly competitive Formula 1 environment.

This position is available starting January 1, 2026.

Your Mission
  • Develop state-of-the-art complete vehicle simulation for lap time performance and energy management optimization
  • Continuously improve the simulation/optimization framework by implementing user requirements and integrating high-fidelity vehicle and powertrain models
  • Identify and implement measures to improve convergence and robustness of the optimization
  • Research, review, and implement advanced numerical methods from academic literature
  • Support concept analysis and system design decisions for the F1 2026 PU regulations
  • Collaborate both independently and with engineers from model and software development

Your Profile

  • Doctoral/Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related field
  • Deep knowledge and several years of experience in numerical optimization
  • Extensive experience in optimal control or model predictive control
  • Good knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, dynamical systems, and differential equations
  • Experience in lap time simulation and vehicle modeling
  • Proficiency in programming in Matlab, Python, or C++
  • Experience with modern software development workflows and version control systems like Git/SVN is a plus
  • Strong analytical, systemic, and independent working style, with the ability to work well in a team
  • Enjoyment working in an international team
  • Full professional proficiency in either German or English, with willingness to learn the other language
