Job summary

Placements24 near East London is seeking a Forestry Technician with silviculture expertise to support planting, maintenance, and monitoring of woodland stands for sustainable forest management and conservation.

You will work in diverse forest environments, applying GPS data collection and field methods while collaborating with a team to ensure healthy forest growth and responsible timber management.

Qualifications

• Diploma or National Diploma in Forestry, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Previous forestry operations or field research experience.
• Knowledge of tree identification, forest ecology, and silvicultural principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and execution of forest planting and regeneration programs.
• Conduct forest inventory surveys, measuring tree growth and assessing forest health.
• Implement silvicultural treatments, such as thinning, pruning, and pest/disease control.
• Monitor forest sites for hazards, including fire risks and invasive species.
• Maintain forestry equipment and tools, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
