Job summary

NECTML, NEC's UK R&D centre for mobile communications in Leatherhead, seeks a Signal Processing Architect to lead Layer 1/2 signal processing design and simulations. You will drive architecture decisions for high-fidelity link-level and system-level platforms, collaborating across UK and NEC teams.

The role requires a PhD or equivalent and deep expertise in DSP, 5G NR, and emerging 6G tech, with a track record in mathematical modelling, MATLAB, and C++/Python development.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Communications Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Expert-level digital signal processing and knowledge of 5G NR, 6G concepts.
  • Experience with Layer 1/2 signal processing and simulations.
  • Strong MATLAB modelling and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with 3GPP standards and RAN1/RAN2 specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Architect advanced Layer 1 and Layer 2 signal processing solutions.
  • Design and implement new capabilities within in-house Link-Level and System-Level simulators.
  • Develop and validate receiver algorithms including synchronization, channel estimation, equalisation, MIMO detection and decoding.
  • Support software, FPGA and ASIC teams with reference implementations and bit-true models.
  • Investigate new 3GPP features and validate via simulation.
  • Generate simulation results for NEC's contributions to international 3GPP standardisation.
  • Apply AI techniques to automate and accelerate engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the UK, Japan and NEC Group.
  • Contribute to the evolution of NEC's next-generation radio technologies.
