Job summary

ABP Langport is seeking a reliable Shunter and Yard Operative to join the production team on site in Langport.

You will move trailers, operate forklifts, and support safe, efficient site operations while upholding food safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate Shunter and Forklift according to SOPs to move trailers to correct areas
• Maintain factory perimeters and external areas in an orderly and tidy manner
• Ensure all non-food deliveries match the appropriate paperwork
• Carry out vehicle movements in line with Health and Safety requirements
• Dispose of CAT 1 and CAT 3 materials correctly with proper paperwork
• Prepare trailers for production according to procedures
• Load and unload lorries and verify goods per operating procedures
• Monitor trailer movements to prevent disruption or spillage of waste material
• Ensure maturation trailers are cleaned and functioning correctly

About the Role

As a Shunter and Forklift Operative, you will play a key role in supporting the efficient operation of the site, ensuring the safe and timely movement of vehicles, trailers, and materials across the plant. You will be responsible for carrying out shunting and forklift activities in line with safety procedures and operational requirements, helping to maintain the smooth running of site operations. Working as part of the wider team, you will contribute to achieving productivity targets while upholding high standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate Shunter and Forklift as required according to SOP’s, ensuring that all trailers
• are moved to the correct area and working as per procedures
• Ensure factory perimeters and external areas are maintained in an orderly and tidy
• manner at all times
• Ensure all non-food deliveries correspond with appropriate paperwork
• Carry out all vehicular activities in a manner which complies with site Health and
• Safety requirements
• Ensure CAT 1 and CAT 3 materials are disposed of correctly and that appropriate
• paperwork is correctly completed and retained
• Prepare trailers for production use in compliance with organisation operating
• procedures
• Load and unload lorries, ensuring goods are checked in accordance with
• organisational operating procedures
• Monitor bone-exit conveyor and ensure trailer is moved as required to prevent
• disruption to production or spillage of waste material
• Responsible for ensuring all maturation trailers are cleaned and working correctly
