Job summary

School-Home Support is seeking a Family Support Practitioner to be based at St John Wall Catholic School in Birmingham. You will deliver a programme of casework to promote and improve educational outcomes for children and their families, focusing on attendance, punctuality and engagement in learning, in close partnership with school staff.

You will have excellent relationship-building and communication skills with experience in education settings, working with parents and diverse communities,

Qualifications

• Experience in an education setting to improve attendance and engagement in learning.
• Experience engaging with parents/carers, children, or individuals through individual/group support.
• Understanding factors affecting a child’s capacity to learn.
• Experience working with families from diverse communities.
• Experience in holistic family support approaches.
• Familiarity with safeguarding processes and referral routes.

Location: St John Wall Catholic School - Birmingham

Salary:£23,232 - £25,862 per annum (This role is term-time only; the salary is in line with working weeks)

Vacancy Type: Fixed Term until 9th of July 2027(5 days per week, Term Time Only + inset days)

We are looking for a Family Support Practitioner to join our team and to make a difference in children’s lives every single day. As the Family Support Practitioner, you will be based at the setting and work in close partnership with school staff to deliver a programme of casework to promote and improve educational outcomes for the children and their families we support. You will also focus your support to help improve attendance, punctuality and engagement in learning.

You will have excellent relationship-building and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate with a wide group of people.

You’ll have previous experience of:

• working in an education setting or similar to improve a child’s school attendance and engagement in learning
• working and engaging with parents/carers, children or individuals through individual and/or group-based support
• factors affecting a child’s capacity to learn
• working with families from diverse communities
• holistic family support
• safeguarding processes and referral routes for safeguarding children
