Job summary

CHEP Pontefract is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead day-to-day production operations, ensuring safety, quality and performance across a 15-person team on a two-shift pattern. You’ll supervise shop floor activities, drive continuous improvement and coordinate with engineering and site support to minimise downtime.

The role offers hands-on leadership, exposure to production and logistics, and a pathway into senior operational leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams in manufacturing, production, logistics or warehouse environments.
• Strong people management and communication skills.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work.
• Experience working to operational KPIs and production targets.
• Ability to coach, motivate and support frontline teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections or compliance checks.
• Hands-on leadership style with a visible shop floor presence.
• Flexibility to support multiple operational areas including production and yard operations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day production and yard operations to ensure a safe, compliant and efficient working environment.
• Lead, motivate and support a team of operational colleagues.
• Monitor progress against production plans and take action to address any issues affecting performance.
• Carry out regular safety audits, shift checks and operational inspections.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards are maintained and promote a zero-harm culture.
• Support quality standards by ensuring correct operating procedures are followed at all times.
• Work closely with engineering, operations and site support teams to resolve issues and minimise downtime.
• Support absence management, return-to-work discussions and other first-line people management activities.
• Ensure colleagues have the tools, equipment and resources needed to perform their roles effectively.
• Maintain accurate operational records and support continuous improvement initiatives.
