Job summary

ASCO Group Limited is seeking a Shipping Controller based in Aberdeen, operating on a 7 days on/7 days off cycle from 19:00 to 07:00. The role focuses on accurate shipping, manifesting, and offshore cargo coordination across client locations.

You will maintain loadout lists and records, ensure cargo weights and shipment data accuracy, and use ERP/QMS systems to support transport and client requirements. Strong communication and safety compliance are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in offshore shipping coordination and loading procedures.

  • Knowledge of IMDG regulations and safe packing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to client queries promptly and accurately.
  • Coordinate offshore cargo collection and delivery with transport providers and departments.
  • Prepare and maintain loadout lists, manifests, and records.
  • Maintain deck utilisation data and ensure shipment information is accurate.
  • Coordinate manifesting files and outbound paperwork.
  • Identify and resolve cargo discrepancies with stakeholders.
  • Conduct post-loadout meetings to ensure client requirements are met.
  • Plan and prioritise workload to meet operations.
  • Support training of new team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and processes.
  • Ensure IMDG compliance and effective use of ERP systems.

Employment Type: Permanent Location: Aberdeen


Hours of Work: 7 days on/7 days off 1900 - 0700


Reporting to the Senior Shipping Controller, the role is responsible for accurately controlling and coordinating the shipping and manifesting of cargo to all customer locations. The working pattern for this role is 7 on 7 off, rotating through the following shift times: 7pm to 7am. Duties include:

  • Respond to client, onshore and offshore queries promptly and accurately, maintaining strong working relationships with client contacts and representatives.
  • Coordinate offshore cargo collection and delivery requirements, liaising with transport providers, vendors and relevant departments.
  • Prepare, update and maintain loadout lists, manifests, operational records and associated documentation using QMS, client and internal systems.
  • Maintain accurate deck utilisation calculations and ensure cargo weights and shipment information are recorded correctly.
  • Coordinate and control manifesting files, outbound paperwork and supporting documentation, ensuring all systems are kept up to date.
  • Identify, record and communicate cargo discrepancies, ensuring issues are resolved with the appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct and record post-loadout meetings, ensuring all client requirements are met.
  • Plan, organise and prioritise workload effectively to meet operational requirements.
  • Support the training and development of new team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and contribute to process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with IMDG regulations, company procedures, work instructions and standards.
  • Accurately utilise client ERP systems and other relevant operational systems.


Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)

  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Problem solving with a logical approach.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to consider the bigger picture when planning.
  • Effective Time Management with ability to plan and prioritise workload.
  • Conversant with UK Oil and Gas Best Practice for the safe packing and handling of cargo to and from offshore locations.
  • Knowledge of quayside and lifting operations.
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft office programs (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Exposure to Logistics/Financial management systems such as SAP, Oracle, Maximo, or similar.
  • Operating knowledge of health & safety regulations and safe working practices.


Desirable Qualifications/ Competencies

  • Practical experience of HM Revenue & Customs and moving Dangerous Goods by Sea.
  • Knowledge of SAP, KABAL, MAXIMO and QMS.
