Job summary

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking a reliable Shift Operator/Driver to support the incineration department as part of the NHSP Bank. The role covers handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste, operating the incinerator, weighing, and adhering to safety standards.

Full training will be provided; the post is temporary with a rolling 4 on/4 off day/night pattern and requires the ability to work both days and nights. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence is required.
• Experience in waste management or facilities is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work safely in physically demanding environments.
• Reliable, team-focused, and able to work a rolling 24-hour shift pattern.

Responsibilities

• Operate the incinerator safely within required parameters.
• Accept, check and process hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
• Safely offload vehicles and operate the weighbridge system.
• Support plant operations in hot, dusty and physically demanding environments.
• Assist with plant maintenance and general site duties.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and PPE requirements.
• Carry out manual handling and other operational duties as required.
• Operate a forklift (where qualified).

Salary

• Band 2 - £13.17 per hour Monday- Friday
• £17.78per hour on Saturdays and night shifts and £22.26 on Sundays

Working Hours

Working 6.00am to 6.00pm and 6.00pm - 6.00am working 4 days on, 4 days off then 4 nights on, 4 nights off on a rolling rota (Must be able to work both days and Nights)

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Shift Operator / Driver to join the NHSP Bank and support the Facilities team.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Trust's waste incineration facility. You'll play an important role in ensuring clinical and general waste is received, processed and managed safely while maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

You'll work as part of a supportive team in a specialist environment, with full training provided, making this a great opportunity to develop new skills and gain experience in an essential NHS service.

This is a temporary role.
