Mitie Group plc. is hiring a Waste Operative for Hull Royal Infirmary. The role is permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week, at £13.50 per hour on site in Hull, East Yorkshire.

You will collect, transport and dispose of general, recycling and clinical waste following site procedures and safety rules, contributing to a clean and safe hospital environment.

• Assist with ongoing improvements to recycling performance.

Job Overview

The Waste Porter is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient collection, transportation, and disposal of general, recycling, and clinical waste streams across the site. The role ensures that all waste is managed in accordance with site procedures, environmental regulations, health and safety requirements, and contractor specifications. The post holder will contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and recycling performance.

Main Duties

• To be competent in the use of all required equipment (full training will be provided).
• To remove all waste streams from allocated waste holds at regular and appropriate intervals.
• To remain vigilant and proactively manage any build-up of waste across the site.
• To ensure all wheelie bin lids are fully closed and locked prior to transportation.
• To ensure all clinical waste is correctly segregated into yellow wheelie bins in accordance with site procedures and contractor requirements prior to collection.
• To ensure all safety devices on yellow wheelie bins are fully engaged when stored within the waste compound.
• To ensure waste compounds and all allocated waste holds are maintained in a clean and tidy condition, reporting any fly-tipping or housekeeping issues to the line manager.
• To ensure all bins within the allocated area are washed and cleaned on a monthly basis.
• To report any spillages, refuse-related issues, defects, or concerns to the line manager promptly.
• To check that all equipment is in good working order at the start and end of each shift and to report any faults, defects, or damage immediately.
• To comply with all site health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
• To undertake any other reasonable duties associated with the role as requested by management.
