Job summary

Pertemps Plymouth, on behalf of Plymouth City Council, seeks an experienced HGV Driver/Waste Operations Driver in Plymouth. You will support safe movement of waste at Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill, operating various waste vehicles and delivering frontline public services.

The role offers a 4-on, 4-off pattern, 42 hours per week, with a £15.56/hour base rate and overtime opportunities. Immediate start for suitable candidates in a frontline environmental team.

Qualifications

• Valid LGV/HGV licence for the vehicle type.
• Current Driver CPC qualification.
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Clean driving licence with ≤6 penalty points.
• Knowledge of driving regulations and Working Time Directive.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate skip, hook loader and articulated vehicles.
• Collect, transport and dispose of waste materials safely.
• Maintain load records and ensure weight regulation compliance.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report defects.
• Adhere to Operator Licence, driving regulations, CPC standards and WTD.
• Deliver excellent customer service to the public and stakeholders.
• Support environmental objectives through safe, sustainable waste handling.
• Contribute to frontline service delivery for Plymouth City Council.

HGV Driver / Waste Operations Driver

Location: Plymouth (Chelson Meadow & Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centres)

Pay Rate: £15.56 per hour / £19.45 per hour for overtime/Sundays

Assignment: Temporary for 12 weeks initially

Shift Pattern: 4 Days On / 4 Days Off (will include weekend working)

Hours: 10.5 hour shifts / 42 hours per week

We are recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for a Waste Operations Driver to support the safe and efficient movement of waste materials across Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centres. The Role

As a Waste Operations Driver, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality waste collection and transportation service, ensuring operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with all relevant regulations.

Key Duties

• Operating a variety of vehicles, including skip vehicles, hook loaders, and articulated vehicles with trailers.
• Collecting, transporting, and disposing of waste materials safely and efficiently.
• Maintaining accurate records of loads moved and ensuring compliance with weight restrictions and environmental regulations.
• Carrying out daily vehicle inspections and reporting any defects.
• Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements, driving regulations, CPC standards, and Working Time Directive rules.
• Delivering excellent customer service when interacting with members of the public and stakeholders.
• Supporting environmental objectives through safe and sustainable waste handling practices.
• Contributing to the smooth running of a critical frontline service for Plymouth City Council.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

• A valid LGV/HGV licence appropriate to the vehicle type.
• A current Driver CPC qualification.
• A valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• A clean driving licence or no more than 6 penalty points.
• Knowledge of driving regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
• Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A reliable, flexible approach and willingness to work in a physically demanding environment.
