Job summary

Astute People are recruiting a Shift Operator for a Lower-Tier COMAH site in Northampton. You will report to the Terminal Manager and help supervise safe, compliant terminal operations, performing routine checks and sampling, and driving mobile plant when required.

The role requires strong health & safety awareness, GCSEs in English and Maths, and a driving licence. Training and progression opportunities accompany a competitive salary and shift allowance.

Qualifications

• Strong health & safety awareness is essential.
• GCSEs English & Maths (grade 4-9) or equivalent.
• Operational experience in a high-hazard process environment is desirable.
• Full UK Driving Licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Shift Supervisor in safe, efficient, and compliant terminal operations.
• Carry out routine checks and plant inspections and report findings per site procedures.
• Take line and tank samples and test against specifications.
• Ensure all work complies with site procedures and COMAH regulations.
• Assist with other duties, including driving mobile plant and housekeeping tasks.

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading energy provider to recruit a Shift Operator for its Lower-Tier COMAH site in Northampton.

Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Operator role

Reporting to the Terminal Manager you will:

• Support the Shift Supervisor in the safe, efficient and compliant running of the terminal.
• Carry out routine checks and visual plant inspections according to instructions and reporting findings accurately in line with site procedures.
• Support with taking line and tank samples and testing against specifications.
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with site procedures and COMAH regulations.
• Assist with other duties as required, including driving mobile plant and housekeeping tasks.

We are looking for someone with the following:

• A strong awareness of health & safety practices is essential; any relevant safety qualifications would be a bonus (e.g. IOSH).
• GCSEs grade 4-9 including English & Maths, or equivalent
• Operational experience in a high-hazard process environment would be highly desirable (e.g. fuel terminal, refinery, chemical process plant).
• Full UK Driving License
