Job summary

Adepto Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Shift Mechanical Fitter (4 on 4 off: 2 days, 2 nights) for a manufacturing site in Essex. The role focuses on plant maintenance, repairs and improvements to ensure safety, reliability and efficient operation.

You will collaborate with maintenance, production and external service contractors to maintain conveyors, pumps, drives and related equipment. A technical apprenticeship or recognised qualification is required, with IOSH desirable.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 mechanical qualification or equivalent required.
• BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification preferred.
• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship essential within process industry is advantageous.
• IOSH Working Safely qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance in accordance with site CMMS and maintenance schedules.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns across plant and equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot conveyors, screws, presses, compressors, bucket elevators and related systems.
• Inspect, test and maintain mechanical equipment and components.
• Observe plant operations during production and minimise disruption.
• Keep accurate shift logs and maintenance records including spare parts.
• Work with pipework, seals and drive alignment using appropriate tools.
• Coordinate with external contractors and assist on site.

Education

City & Guilds Certificate / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification

BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification

Job description

Shift Mechanical Fitter - Staff - 4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights) - Manufacturing - Salary + Allowance of £4.3K + Benefits - Essex

Job Purpose

• Responsible for carrying out plant maintenance, repairs and improvements to ensure the reliability, safety and efficient operation of plant and associated areas.
• Work collaboratively with the wider maintenance and production teams, supporting plant operations and responding to business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance in accordance with the site CMMS and maintenance schedules.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns and faults across plant and equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment including conveyors, screws, presses, compressors, bucket elevators and associated mechanical systems.
• Inspect, test and maintain mechanical equipment, components and systems.
• Observe plant operations during production, identify potential failures and take appropriate action to minimise operational disruption.
• Maintain accurate shift logs and record maintenance activities, faults, follow-up requirements and spare parts.
• Work on piping systems, including the correct installation and maintenance of gaskets, flanges and fixings appropriate to the application.
• Install and maintain plastic pipework and associated equipment.
• Carry out alignment of drive systems using DTI and laser alignment equipment.
• Install, maintain and set various types of mechanical seals.
• Liaise with external service contractors and provide assistance while they are working on site.
• Work effectively alongside Mechanical, Instrumentation and Production/Process teams to provide an efficient maintenance service.
• Compile Risk Assessments and Method Statements where required.
• Complete required company training and maintain all relevant competencies.
• Provide shift cover when required and work additional hours or shifts during outages, turnarounds or periods of increased business demand.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties required by the Maintenance Manager or Team Leader.

Qualifications & Experience

• City & Guilds Certificate / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification.
• BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification.
• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally within a process industry such as paper, energy-from-waste, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, power generation, oil & gas or FMCG, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• IOSH Working Safely qualification is desirable
