Job summary

IKO is seeking two reliable, hands-on production shift managers to lead a team and ensure the production plan is executed to the highest standards. You will manage out-of-hours queries, improve plant performance and reinforce safe working practices on your shift.

You will oversee risk assessments, training, and the scheduling of operations to maintain stock levels and on-time delivery, while collaborating with engineering and HR to drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a production shift, including out-of-hours queries and weekend rota.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental rules are followed and train staff.
• Identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and improve processes.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and coordinate with maintenance for tasks.
• Plan and schedule to meet customer requirements and on-time delivery.
• Communicate with Production Manager about capacity changes and issues.
• Oversee staff performance reviews and development plans.
• Develop and implement training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Purpose of role

In this role you will effectively manage a production shift (including out of hours delivery queries) ensuring the execution and management of the production plan whilst producing product to the highest standards. Always reinforcing a safe working environment. Optimising plant performance and ensuring efficiencies are delivered and improved where possible. Undertake a hands-on working approach to the management of your shift.

Managing Operations:

• Ensure that all health, safety and environmental rules and systems are strictly adhered to. Carry out risk assessments and the identification of hazards helping to develop safe operating procedures and train staff in those procedures.
• To carry out analysis, identify root cause and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
• Liaise with engineering/maintenance personnel to ensure engineering tasks and PPM requests are actioned on time.
• To ensure all customer requirements are efficiently and effectively planned and scheduled to maintain appropriate stock levels and achieve on time delivery.
• To communicate daily with the Production Manager in relation to any changes in capacity requirements identifying any possible issues and solutions.
• Report production onto the system. Receive incoming goods onto the system.
• To answer out of hours telephone calls and resolve any issues as appropriate.
• As part of this to be available at weekend on a rota basis to answer calls.

Managing People:

• Professionally and directly manage a team to deliver effective operational service. This is to include working with them in a “hands on” capacity as required.
• Maintain good working relationships with internal departments.
• Good working knowledge of employment law and a proven track record of managing within these rules.
• Drive a procedurally driven culture within their teams.
• Reiterate company policies.
• Flexibility of team in terms of skills and time, with the goal of all persons being able to undertake all duties.
• Develop, inspire, support and guide individuals.
• Maintain regular dialogue with your team; discuss performance, improvements and provide direction.
• Conduct Performance management reviews in line with Company policy.
• Set challenging objectives which reinforce required competencies.
• Work closely with Production Manager to ensure good communication and optimal team working.
• Maintain discipline and liaise with Human Resources.
• Organise manning of the shifts and control overtime requirements within budgetary constraints.
• Deliver toolbox talks and relay any relevant training information to your teams.

To undertake training and development activities including:

• IKO Management Development Programme
• IOSH Managing safety
• Qualification in Line Management
• NEBOSH General Certificate (to hold this qualification at start of employment with the company, unless appointed through internal promotion, then qualification achieved within your initial 6 months in position).
• Identification of development needs of self and team.
• Provide method of online training/knowledge sharing.
