Equans is looking for a Shift Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick.

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Smethwick

Hours: 40.25 hours per week (full time)

Shift Pattern: 2 days on (7am‑7pm), 2 nights on (7pm‑7am), 4 days off.

Salary: £22,568 to £26,400 per year, dependent upon skills and experience.

Responsibilities

• First response to reactive jobs and tasks such as ventilation grille cleans, light cleans, unblocking toilets, meter readings, etc., in accordance with standards, operational procedures, legislation, and guidance.
• Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during night shift, acting as the initial point of contact.
• Assess the nature of the issue, allocate tasks to appropriate team members, and complete necessary documentation.
• Ensure all records are handed over to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks across the site in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.

Qualifications

• Previous work within a maintenance environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, and domestic hot and cold‑water systems.
• Desirable: Experience in a healthcare maintenance environment.
• DBS Standard check – ability to pass is essential.
