Job summary

Biffa is seeking a Shift Leader to oversee the Plastics Recycling Facility (PRF) as a 24/7 operation. The role includes coordinating 12-hour day and night shifts (7:00–19:00 days; 19:00–07:00 nights) on a 4 on/4 off pattern, ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance, and driving continuous productivity improvements.

The Shift Leader will manage staffing, maintain high housekeeping, and provide detailed operation records to support maintenance and optimisation efforts at the site.

Qualifications

• Experience as Shift Supervisor or similar responsibility in waste management.
• Experience managing people and health & safety in a unionised, multi-shift environment.
• Understanding of the waste industry and relevant laws.
• Proven track record of meeting defined service delivery KPIs.
• Ability to communicate with conviction and plan with precision.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control all resources (people, equipment, stock) to maximise productivity and plant performance.
• Ensure productivity and availability meet defined standards while driving cost control and improvements.
• Manage material flow to minimise downtimes and optimise throughput.
• Maintain accurate records of plant operations, settings and stoppages; identify causes of downtime.
• Support engineering in planned maintenance, inspections and cleaning to minimise downtime.
• Demonstrate strong man-management skills in a demanding environment.
