Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Shift Leader to efficiently supervise the Plastics Recycling Facility operations, a 24/7 site requiring 12-hour day and night shifts.

You will manage resources, ensure safety, drive continuous improvement, and uphold site licenses. The role offers a 4 on/4 off pattern, with a £42,110 annual salary and 40.25 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Experience as Shift Supervisor or similar responsibility in waste management.
• Experience of people and health and safety management in a unionised, multi-shift environment.
• Understanding of the waste industry and relevant laws.
• Proven track record of working to defined service delivery KPI’s.
• Ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and work with others.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control all plant resources, including stock and housekeeping, to maximise productivity.
• Ensure productivity and availability exceed defined KPI targets while driving cost control and improvements.
• Control the material which flows into and out of the process to minimise downtimes.
• Provide accurate and detailed records of all plant operations, settings and stoppages and attribute causes to all unplanned downtime.
• Support engineering in developing a programme of planned preventative maintenance, inspection and cleaning to minimise downtime and provide records of recurrent faulting.
• Must have good man management skills and stay focussed in a tough and demanding environment.

Shift Pattern:

• Week 1: 07:00 – 19:00 (Days)

• Week 2: 19:00 – 07:00 (Nights)

Salary: £42,110 per annum.

A quick look at the role.

The Shift Leader will efficiently organise and supervise the operation of the PRF (Plastics Recycling Facility) which will be a 24/7 operation (4 days on/off alternating 12 hour day and night 7:00 - 7:00), ensuring health & safety and environmental compliance, whilst showing continuous improvement in productivity, plant availability and the requirements of sub-products (Glass Cans Plastics ) produced in accordance with the site licences.

Your core responsibilities.

• Monitoring and controlling all resource within the plant in terms of people and equipment, including stock control, maintaining a high level of housekeeping in all areas, to maximise operational productivity, plant availability and plant performance.
• Ensuring productivity and availability exceeds minimum defined standards in terms of tons processed per hour and quality remains above the minimum standard required during the process, whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and processing operations.
• Controlling the material which flows into and out of the process to ensure downtimes are minimised.
• Providing accurate and detailed records of all plant operations, settings and stoppages and to attribute causes to all unplanned downtime.
• Supporting the engineering functioning in developing a programme of planned preventative maintenance, inspection and cleaning to minimise downtime and provide records of recurrent faulting.
• Must have good man management skills and be able to stay focussed in a tough and demanding environment.
