Job summary

Biffa Group is hiring a skilled Shift Fitter at Poplars AD Plant in Cannock to keep the anaerobic digestion facility running safely and reliably through proactive maintenance and rapid fault response. You will report to the Shift Supervisor and work across planned and reactive maintenance, diagnostics and equipment improvements.

This role is a 42-hour week with a 4 on/4 off pattern; day shifts 07:00–19:00 and night shifts 19:00–07:00, plus a 10% night shift allowance and 26 paid cover shifts

Qualifications

• 2+ years in mechanical or electrical fitter role.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience in fast-paced process/manufacturing environments.
• Understanding of planned preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across the plant.
• Diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs.
• Support installation work and equipment improvements.
• Drive plant reliability, uptime and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with operations to minimise downtime.
• Coordinate specialist maintenance activities with contractors.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Support preventative maintenance programmes and root cause analysis

Salary: £40,560.00 per annum

Hours: Average 42 hours per week

Shift Pattern: 4 Days On, 4 Days Off, 4 Nights On, 4 Days Off

Day Shifts: 07:00 - 19:00 | Night Shifts: 19:00 - 07:00

Shift Allowance: 10% additional payment for night shifts worked between 19:00 and 07:00

Cover Shifts: Plus paid 26 cover shifts per year

Your Core Responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across the plant.
• Diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs.
• Support installation work and equipment improvements.
• Drive plant reliability, uptime and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with operations teams to minimise downtime.
• Coordinate specialist maintenance activities with contractors.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Our Essential Requirements

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a Mechanical or Electrical Fitter role.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working in a fast-paced process, manufacturing, waste, water or industrial environment.
• Understanding of planned preventive maintenance principles.
• Ability to prioritise and respond effectively to breakdowns.
• Relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification preferred
